Kugelhopf

Ingredients:
  • 200 gr white sugar
  • 250 gr unsalted butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 100 gr cooking chocolate
  • 50 ml milk
  • 100 gr ground walnuts
  • 2 apples(sour) peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 250 gr all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • bread crumbs and powdered sugar
Directions:

1. In a standing electric mixer, beat the butter with the sugar and 5 egg yolks until soft and light, about 3 minutes. Beat in the flour and baking powder.

2. Melt 100 gr of chocolate in 50 ml of milk and stir together with 5 egg whites. Add 1 packet of vanilla sugar and 100 gr ground walnuts.  Stir in the chopped apples.

3. Mix all the ingredients together. Brush the mold for the Kuglof with butter and bread crumbs.

4. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake the kugelhof until it’s well-risen, and deep golden, about 60 minutes. Cool the kugelhopf for 10 minutes, then unmold. The chocolate lovers can cover the Kugelhopf with melted chocolate or you can simply cover it with powdered sugar.
